Security authorities on Monday arrested a street vendor accused of assaulting a German man over the price of a cup of tea, state news agency MENA reported.
The German citizen, identified by MENA as Jan, filed a report at Qasr al-Nil Police Station and said he was taking a walk in Tahrir Square when he had a fight with a street vendor over the price of a cup of tea. Jan said the vendor beat him, wounding him in his left thigh and knee, then fled.
A sketch of the suspect was drawn using Jan’s description of his alleged attacker, and authorities arrested him. The suspect was found to have been charged in two other cases.
MENA said the man confessed to the attack and was referred to the Public Prosecution for investigation.
