School violence erupts across Egypt

A wave of violence continued in Egyptian schools the day before yesterday as a private school teacher in Giza has allegedly broken a student’s arm, while student clashes were reported in the Minya Governorate.

Abd el-Nasr, the guardian of a second-grade student at the Orman preparatory school in Giza, said his son was kicked by a mathematics teacher after complaining about being harassed by one of his classmates. The boy was taken to the Employees Hospital where his broken arm was set.

“Tell Ahmad Zaki Badr, the minister of education, that we send our children to schools and not to slaughterhouses,” Abd el-Nasr said to Al-Masry Al-Youm after filing a report with the Imbaba police department.

In the city of Adwa in Minya Governorate, a dispute between a secondary school student and tech school student ended in a brawl between children from each of their respective villages. Local police intervened, arresting a number of the students.

In other news, the public prosecution in Ismailia renewed the detention pending investigation of brothers Sayyed and Mahmoud Helt Abd el-Jawad, accused of breaking into the Salam preparatory school, kidnapping and stabbing a student.
