Saudi Arabia lifts ban on guava imports from Egypt

The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) lifted on Tuesday the temporary ban on the import of frozen and processed guava imported from Egypt to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Saudi authorities will only accept imports from facilities accredited by the SFDA, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

The decision came upon a commitment of the regulatory body in Egypt to the conditions and requirements for the export of manufactured vegetables and fruits to Saudi Arabia, and after the SFDA accredited facilities of manufactured vegetables and fruit in Egypt.

The SFDA took the decision in January to temporarily ban imports of fresh, frozen, and manufactured guava from Egypt due to pesticide residues which proved to be higher than the global standards limit.
