The sarcophagus of King Ramses II will be displayed in Paris, starting April 2023, for five months, in a rare loan from Egypt to France, French CNEWS newspaper reported.
The Cabinet approved the sending of the wooden sarcophagus of the mummy of King Ramesses II to Paris, to be exhibited among artifacts at the ““Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs” exhibition, held in Paris, from April 1, 2023 to September 17, 2023.
This was a request submitted by the president of Houston Museum of Natural Science, organizer of the exhibition.
The newspaper published information about King Ramses II, describing him as a great ruler and one of the most famous pharaohs of the Nineteenth Dynasty.
He also said that for the first time in 45 years, his colored cedar coffin will leave Egypt for display in Paris.
This will be part of an exhibition, and visitors will be able to enjoy viewing this priceless artifact starting April at the Grande Halle de la Villette.
Ramses II has the third longest reign in history, preceded by King Louis XIV who reigned for 72 years and Queen Elizabeth II who ruled for 70 years.
Ramesses II built many monuments throughout Egypt including the Temple of a Million Years as well as the temples of Abu Simbel, which were built to glorify the pharaoh and his favorite wife, Nefertari.
The paper added that the deceased pharaoh also constructed two obelisks for the Temple of Amun in Luxor.
One of which is currently located in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. It was previously presented to France in 1829 under the rule of Muhammad Ali.
King Ramesses II was a great conqueror who led many conquests to protect and expand his kingdom, with his army.
He had dozens of royal wives, including Sis-Nefert, Bintanat and Nefertari: his favorite. He also had more than 200 concubines, with whom he had a hundred children.
