Sarah Winterbottom wins Red Sea’s Miss Scuba

After a heated competition among 50 participants, Sarah Mariko Winterbottom has been awarded the Miss Scuba United Kingdom title during the pageant's final event held in Quseir, the Red Sea, Tuesday.

The 10 finalists had participated in several competitions including diving, scuba diving and swimming with dolphins.

Winterbottom is expected to head to Malaysia later to compete with winners from other countries for the international title.

The Miss Scuba International pageant was held for the very first time in 2011. On its Facebook page, the organization says the pageant is designed to “enable more people to understand how fragile our oceans are and how we can all play our individual roles to make a big difference”.

It also seeks to “promote safe diving practices through worldwide professional training organizations, and elevate international marine tourism and cultural appreciation”.
