Salafis aim to head ministry supervising state-owned companies

Yousry Hammad, a spokesperson for the Salafi Nour Party, said Wednesday that his party has a candidate for the recently revived Ministry of Public Enterprise.

Hammad refused to reveal the candidate’s name, but he told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the party seeks this ministry and has an appropriate candidate.

He said that Prime Minister-designate Hesham Qandil has not offered the party any positions in the new government, although it prepared a list of candidates for economic ministries.

It was rumored that Mohamed Hazem, who is considered close to the Nour Party, was a candidate for communications and information technology minister following a meeting between him and Qandil.

However, the state run Nile News channel reported on Wednesday that Hany Mahmoud, a former director of the Cabinet's Information and Decision Support Center, is expected to head the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology.

The Public Enterprise Ministry would be responsible for administering nearly 150 companies owned by the state.
