Salafi figures deny supporting Morsy for president

Salafi Dawah figures in Alexandria slammed claims that they had announced their support for Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohamed Morsy.

Mohamed Ismail al-Mokadem and Saad Abdel Azim reiterated their full support of Abdel Moneim Abouel Fotouh, who was endorsed by the Salafi Dawah. Sheikh Mohamed Abdel Maqsoud had said that the two men were supporting Morsy.

Abdel Azim announced in a statement that he is committed to the decision of the Salafi Dawah even if his personal decision would have been different.

The official page of the Salafi Nour party said that Mokadem denied that he had attended a Jurisprudence Commission for Rights and Reform panel as Abdel Maqsoud claimed.

Mokadem said that he is committed to the Salafi Dawah’s decision to support Abouel Fotouh.

The official page of Nour Party said that Mokadem did not attend the meeting of Jurisprudence Commission for Rights and Reform during the vote, pointing out that he was at Salafi Dawah Shura Council meeting in Alexandria at the time.

Maqsoud said during a rally in support of Morsy that Mokadem and Abdel Azim support Morsy and asked how the Salafi Dawah could support anyone else.
