Several Salafi Dawah preachers have urged their congregations to inform police about members and supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood who incite and practice violence, describing this as a national yet religious duty.
Sources close to Salafi Dawah Vice-Chief Yasser Borhamy said he communicated with leaders from the Ansar al-Sunna and Al-Shareya Association charity organizations to form preaching convoys that watch and confront the Brotherhood’s practices.
Salafi Preacher Mohamed al-Abaseery said in a statement that informing on supporters of terrorist groups has become a religious duty and that anyone who abstains from giving related information would be participating in their acts.
Sameh Abdel Hamid, another preacher, said informing security about anyone planting or making bombs has become a religious duty. “We are not an investigation authority, but all the evidence indicates that the Brotherhood are behind the blasts,” he added.
Salah Abdel Maaboud, a member of the Salafi-oriented Nour Party’s presidential council, said Brotherhood supporters are trying to get the party involved in violence., The party, however, remains committed to the law.
