Sacked cement workers demand reinstatement

Workers sacked by the Arabian Cement Company have asked for an official intervention to reinstate them, complaining that they have no other source of income.

Shaaban Khalifa, who leads a syndicate of private sector workers, demanded the Manpower and Immigration Ministry to promptly intervene to resolve the dilemma of 82 workers at the Ain Sohkna-based plant who had been expelled by the company upon the end of its contract with the contractor.

Khalifa said in statements on Sunday that workers had told him many of them are “inhumanely sleeping in the desert near the plant”, adding that his syndicate would take legal measures against the company which has forsaken the workers after six years in service.
