A delegation of Russian security and transportation experts will arrive on Tuesday at Cairo International Airport to start security checks at Hurghada and Sharm al-Sheikh airports.
The delegation will head to Hurghada and Sharm al-Sheikh to check measures applied to secure passengers, cargo and aircraft. It will also examine the steps taken to protect the airports from security threats, sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm.
The delegation will be divided into two team upon its arrival in Cairo, according to the sources. One team will head to Hurghada, while the other will head to Sharm el-Sheikh.
A report will then be drafted and submitted to Russian President Vladimir Putin, with the aim of setting a date for the resumption of Russian flights to Egypt.
In October, a Russian passenger jet crashed en route from the Egyptian tourist resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg in Russia, killing all 224 passengers and crew on board.
Russia and other Western countries halted flights to Sharm el-Sheikh following the catastrophe, adding to the woes of Egypt’s struggling tourism sector.
