The Russian Foreign Ministry said on Friday that Egyptian doctors tried until the last minute to save the life of the Russian tourist, 39-year-old Yevgeni Kuznetsov, who fell into a coma and was taken to the hospital in Hurghada on 11 November.
Moscow had sent doctors to conduct surgery for him.
The Russian TASS news agency on Thursday quoted a source at the Russian Foreign Ministry as saying that the hospital kept Kuznetsov on a ventilator until his death was confirmed.
Some media channels had claimed that the Egyptian doctors removed the ventilator because his relatives were unable to pay the cost of treatment, but a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that the doctors took all necessary action to revive his heart.
The Russian embassy in Egypt said it was in contact with Kuznetsov’s relatives and provided them with all necessary assistance.
