Russia, Egypt discuss grain exports from Ukrainian ports

On Wednesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry discussed the implementation of the Istanbul agreements on grain exports on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, Tass Russian News Agency reported.

A statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry after the meeting said that “issues of ensuring food security were discussed in the context of implementing the agreements reached in July 2022 in Istanbul on the export of grain from Ukrainian ports and the unhindered access of Russian agricultural products and fertilizers to the international market.”

The two ministers also discussed prospects for expanding trade partnerships in industry, energy, agriculture and tourism, the statement said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry stressed the importance of the role of the joint Russian-Egyptian committee for trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation in solving this problem.

Lavrov and Shoukry also reviewed the progress made in implementing huge Russian investment projects in Egypt, especially the nuclear power plant in Dabaa and the Russian industrial zone in the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
