The campaign promoting Gamal Mubarak, son of President Hosni Mubarak, as a potential candidate in next year’s presidential elections is supported by "only a few members" of the ruling party’s youth secretariat, according to National Democratic Party (NDP) youth secretary Mohamed Heba.
“The campaign is still in its political adolescence,” Heba said.
“At the moment, we're busy nominating the party’s candidates for next month’s parliamentary elections,” he added. “And we intend to win all the seats.”
Gamal Mubarak Campaign Manager Mohamed Mamdouh, for his part, dismissed the youth secretary's comments.
“Heba can say whatever he wants," said Mamdouh. "But we're getting on with our campaign.”
“We encourage the public to take part in politics,” said Ahmed Belal, another Gamal Mubarak campaign manager. He went on to point out that the campaign had collected 250,000 signatures to date in support of the younger Mubarak.
