Rights organization conference presses for appointment of casual workers

A human rights group has pressed for the permanent appointment of casually-employed workers across the country, urging to grant them equality with their already appointed colleagues.

The Egyptian Center for Economic and Social Rights held a conference on Wednesday hosting representatives of labor communities at a number of provinces, including bread distributors, farmers and mosque attendants.

The conference highlighted the dilemma of casual workers in Egypt which represents from 60 to 85 percent of the total national workforce, demanding their appointment as stipulated in a recent verdict by the Administrative Court.

The ruling, organizers of the conference explained, obliges the government to appoint temporary workers who had served for long at various sectors of the economy, most notably medical care.

Last year, the government’s Central Agency for Organization and Administration said it plans to permanently appoint all of the country’s casual workers working at government institutions by the end of 2015.
