Rights groups to meet with Morsy to discuss their future role

Sixty-six human rights organizations will meet with Muslim Brotherhood presidential candidate Mohamed Morsy on Monday to discuss their future role should he win.

“We want to know what he thinks of the role of civil society in building the Egyptian state,” said Mohamed Zarei, head of the Arab Penal Reform Organization. “We want to know if he looks at civil organizations as partners.”

Zarei also said the meeting would discuss Morsy’s opinion of the international conventions Egypt has signed in the past, as well as those the Mubarak regime refused to sign, in particular ones regarding the rights of women, children and people with special needs.
