Revolutionary youth group calls for protest against military rule

A revolutionary youth group on Thursday called on all Egyptians to take part in a demonstration on 9 September in Tahrir Square in protest against what they called the “hindering of the revolution, distraction of the people from thinking about the country’s future and the consecration of military rule.”

In a statement on its Facebook page, the Second Anger Revolution Youth group called on all political movements and parties to unite, act in the country’s best interests and postpone lingering differences until after the revolution’s demands have been fulfilled and Egyptians have obtained their rights.

The statement stressed the need for an immediate cessation of military trials for civilians, and the re-trial of all those given military court sentences, which they described as being “used against the revolutionaries while the thugs wreak havoc.”

The statement also criticized the emergence of new charges such as insulting the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF), which goes against the principle of free speech.

According to the statement, “These new charges prove the lack of truth in the SCAF’s Communiqué No. (68), in which they said that military trials are only for thugs and not for the revolutionary youth.”

They also demanded an end to military rule and the handover of power, as the six-month transitional period has ended.

The statement said that poor living conditions and inflation are a “product of the failure to achieve the revolution’s demands.”
