The Revolution Continues Coalition said it is seeking to form a panel of the revolution's candidates who will drop their bids for only one candidate.
The decision will be made following dialogue with revolutionary youth, with the purpose of reaching an agreement on a set of criteria to choose the candidates who will form this panel.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the coalition said the current developments in the political scene prove that there is a need for revolutionary political powers to agree on one presidential nominee who will adopt a platform toward achieving the goals of the revolution and to satisfy the ambitions of Egyptians.
Presidential hopeful Hamdeen Sabbahi welcomed the idea of reaching a consensus on a presidential panel led by one civilian president. The members of the panel would drop their candidacies to support the bid of that candidate.
He said there should be specific criteria for choosing the candidate to support, including his popularity in the street.
At the headquarters for his presidential campaign, Sabbahi, who met with a group of revolutionary youth, described the nomination of former Vice President Omar Suleiman as an insult to the nation and its revolution. He added that he trusts the people's ability to filter out unsuitable candidates.
At a rally in Aswan on Tuesday, Abul Ela Mady, the head of the Wasat Party, said he is working with other presidential candidates to prevent the return of former regime figures to positions of power.
He added that the country needs a candidate, Islamist or otherwise, on whom all political and national powers will agree. He added that the current political conflicts between different political powers are a healthy phenomenon.
