The Supreme Constitutional Court (SCC) on Monday set the review of a case calling for the dissolution of the Shura Council to be heard on 12 May.
The case was referred to the SCC by the Supreme Administrative Court to rule on the constitutionality of the Shura Council elections law.
The case challenges the constitutionality of the election of one third of the seats under the single-winner system. The People's Assembly was elected using the same election system and was ordered dissolved on 14 June 2012.
The court previously referred the case to the State Commissioners Authority to provide a legal opinion in light of articles in the new Constitution immunizing the current Shura Council against dissolution and granting it temporary legislative and monitoring powers.
