Two police officers convicted of torturing a prisoner to death and electrocuting another will appear at Tanta Criminal Court on Tuesday for a retrial of their case.
Captain Ahmed al-Kafrawy and low-ranking police officer Ahmed Saleh were convicted of the aforementioned crimes by a court in December and were sentenced to life in prison.
However, their lawyers appealed the verdict, and a higher court ordered a retrial, the first session of which takes place on Tuesday.
The two police officers are accused of torturing Ismail Abdel Hamid and Yasser al-Mallah at Tanta First Police Station in December 2014. Abdel Hamid died, allegedly from injuries sustained during torture.
