Prosecutors ordered on Wednesday the release of three reporters from independent news website El Badil who were accused of assaulting a satellite channel owner following a heated interview.
Al-Umma satellite channel owner Ahmed Abdallah, who is known as “Sheikh Abu Islam," and his son Islam Abdallah, the channel’s CEO, accused Sara Ramadan, Hassan al-Banna, and Mahmoud Zayed of assaulting them and destroying the sheikh’s office following a disagreement during a press interview.
Islam Abdallah, and his sister, Maysara, have also been released following an interrogation into accusations it was they who assaulted the journalists.
Abu Islam, his son and another man are facing criminal trial for blasphemy against Christianity after they were filmed destroying the Bible outside the US Embassy in Cairo last month during protests against an anti-Islam film.
