Report contributes last week’s low crime rate to police involvement

The Maat for Peace, Development and Human Rights issued a report on Thursday on crime rates in the Egyptian society, crediting security authorities for low crime rates during the period from July 31 to August 6.

The terrorism witnessed a minor rise during the week covered by the report, which coincided with the inauguration of the new Suez Canal project.

According to the report there has been a large decline in the number of victims and a remarkable improvement in the ability of the police to prevent reported crimes before they occurred.

The report mentioned that there have been 55 attempts to commit terrorist crimes, including 38 attempts in North Sinai governorate.

Attempts to target military and police forces were 36 attempts from the total of 55 incidents.

There have been 13 attempts to target citizens out of 55, and four attempts to target service installations such as railway lines and electricity towers.

Terrorist operations occurred in 12 governorates, compared to eight governorates in the previous week, according to the report.
