Refugees tell of mistreatment in Libya

Around 180 Egyptian workers who fled Libya through the Tunisian border arrived in Egypt Thursday, escaping the turmoil that has overwhelmed the country since 17 February.

Egyptian evacuees said pro-Qadhafi forces continue to mistreat Egyptians in an effort to force them stay in Libya, confiscating their money, property, and in some cases, beating them. Egyptians have also been used as human shields during clashes between pro-Qadhafi forces and rebels.

International efforts are still being exerted to evacuate foreigners from Libya through the Salloum border crossing. Around 343 evacuees of different nationalities recently arrived at Cairo Airport on the way to their home countries.
