Referendum on constitution draft mid-January: minister

Minister of Administrative Development Hani Mamdouh said the referendum on the draft constitution will be held in mid-January in every governorate over a period of two days.

“The forthcoming referendum will prove to the world that the June 30 revolution was not ‘photoshopped,’” he said in a CBC interview Monday evening, adding that ballots will be printed at ‘sovereign’ printing houses.

Mamdouh said 53 million and 377 thousand voters were registered in the electoral lists for the next referendum, three million of which are newly registered since the 2012 constitution referendum.

Vote-counting will take place in sub-committees and will be secured by police and army personnel, he added.

Voters can find out more about the process and their registration status by calling 140, visiting the Supreme Electoral Commission's website, and asking at police stations or courts of first instance, the minister said.
