Red Sea resorts warned of power outage, asked to pay bills

Electricity authorities in Egypt's Red Sea Governorate have filed complaints against 30 resorts and hotels owners, warning them that power may be cut for failure to pay electricity bills for four months.

The resort owners warned include Shahinaz al-Naggar, who owns Nabila Grand Bay resort, south of Hurghada, and is indebted with LE567,000. Naggar is the wife of Ahmed Ezz, the now-jailed steel mogul and former senior official of the disbanded National Democratic Party.

Businessman Kamel Abu Ali, who owns a tourist village and shopping mall, owes LE820,000 to electricity providers.

Samir Abdel Fattah, owner of Grand Makadi and Grand Hotel, owes up to LE900,000.
