Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafy met on Thursday several senior security officers in the governorate and the Safari Tourism Association to discuss the launch of a special unit for organizing desert Safari tours in the area, as well as registering tourists’ data and travel companies’ names.
Organizers of Safari tours in the Red Sea resort city of Hurghada requested previously that a unit under the supervision of Egypt’s Ministry of Tourism be established to manage Safari tours and issue travel licenses, and Hanafy said that governmental bodies have approved the proposal.
Around 600 to 900 holidaymakers from European countries, mostly from Germany, England, Ukraine, and Scandinavian countries visit Hurghada to take safari tours and enjoy the scene of mountains, sands, valleys, Bedouin camps and beaches.
The city was selected in 2019 among the 100 best tourist destinations in the world by Euromonitor International, a leading provider of market research and analysis, and ongoing improvements to the political and security situation in Egypt could push Hurghada into a top 50 spot in the coming years.
Hurghada was chosen following a study of more than 400 cities based on statistics of the number of tourists that visited each city during 2018, according to Euromonitor International’s report.
The Red Sea vacation spot is expected to see 41 percent growth in its tourism sector during 2020, which will further boost its ranking, the report said, adding that Hurghada is popular among European tourists for water sports, nightlife and entertainment
