Between Sahl Hasheesh and Hurghada, specifically in the Riviera area, Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate is conducting a study to establish a world-class yacht marina to accommodate an increase in yacht tourism.
Red Sea Governor Amr Hanafy said that Egypt’s Tourism Ministry is interested in this type of tourism, as it falls under directive of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly to maximize yacht tourism in the Red Sea and Egypt in general.
The ministry is currently closely examining yacht tourism’s feasibility, including identifying possible obstacles that its increase could bring.
Member of the Marsa Alam Tourism Investment Association Atef Abdel Latif added that new entry procedures and permits would need to be established if yacht tourism was revitalized in Egypt, in order to make the country attractive for yachts and cruise ships alike.
He added that yacht tourism will play a major role in revitalizing Arab and Gulf tourism to Red Sea cities, such as Sharm el-Sheikh, Hurghada and Marsa Alam.
