On Monday, a reconciliation was reached in the illicit gains cases of Hussein Salem, Zakaria Azmy and Gamel Hilawa, said a source from inside the Justice Ministry. The reconciliation was reached when the officials and bussinessmen, associated with Mubarak's government and charged with embezzlement, agreed to pay the sums of money demanded of them by the state.
The source, who has asked to remain anonymous, said that the cases will be presented to the cabinet for approval, after which the cases can be officially closed. This is in accordance with amendments to the illicit gains law.
The source added that 35 other cases in the same vein are now to be dealt with, giving perpetrators a chance to settle their accounts with the government. Negotiations with the blacklisted figures will begin once each case has been examined and the amount to be repaid decided.
The source stated that the public prosecution will be carrying out special procedures to deal with names on government watch lists and those banned from travel.
