A security source in Beheira Governorate says that authorities did not receive any notification of missing persons after two ferries on the Nile collided last Friday in Rashid. The rescue operation was halted when no bodies were found, according to the security source.
Life is back to normal in the area, with ferries transporting people across the river as usual. Ferries are the most common way to cross between the east and west banks of the 700-meter-wide Nile. Many people in the area cross the river daily to go to school or work.
Ramadan Abdu, a fisherman in the area, said that the victims were all saved by local boats before the resue teams came. "They probably went home without reporting their safety to the police," Abdu said.
Meanwhile, the public prosecutors are continuing an investigation into the accident.
