Rainy weather, cold at night expected in Egypt for Monday

The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) expects moderate weather during the day in most areas on Monday, while being moderately cold at night and early morning.

The country may be impacted by a relatively cold wave, accompanied by the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in some areas, especially in the northern parts, with active winds.

The EMA warned against weather conditions at night, with temperatures continuing to drop across the country, reaching as low as five degreesĀ  in Saint Catherine and 15C in Greater Cairo.

Monday’s weather forecast is light to moderate rain, possibly accompanied by thunderstorms, on the northern coasts (Alexandria, Marsa Matrouh, Damietta), Lower Egypt (Delta), and the Suez Canal cities (Ismailia, Suez).

Weather maps warned of active northwesterly winds at speeds ranging from 30-50 km/h, which may stir up dust storms in exposed areas especially at South Sinai, the Red Sea, and southern Upper Egypt.

Marine navigation at the the Mediterranean and Red Seas may be disturbed due to winds and high waves between two to three meters, requiring fishermen to be cautious.

The authority recommended wearing medium-thick clothing during the day and relatively heavy clothing at night, especially in the northern and inland regions, alongside exercising caution on highways in the morning due to fog and rain in coastal areas.

It also recommended that allergy and sinus sufferers be careful due to dust-raising winds, and advised fishermen and boat owners to follow meteorological warnings due to rough seas.

Expected temperatures on Monday:

  • Alexandria: 21C
  • Cairo: 25C
  • Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh: 26C
  • Luxor and Aswan: 28C
