Rain and strong winds force six ports to close

Six ports on the Mediterranean and the Red Sea closed Sunday due to bad weather, officials said.

Mossaad Amer, public relations director of Alexandria Port, said the Alexandria and Dekheila ports, used for most of the country’s foreign trade, were closed due to heavy rain and strong winds.

Mohamed Gaballah of the Red Sea Ports Authority also announced that the ports of Suez, Adabiya, Zayteyat and Port Tawfiq also closed.

“The waves were four meters high and the wind was 25 knots,” he said.

But Gaballah said the ports of Sharm el-Sheikh, Nuweiba, Ain Sokhna, Safaga and Hurghada are operating normally.
