Railway services partly resumed

Railway services between Alexandria and Banha partially resumed Saturday morning after being completely halted since 14 August.

“Security authorities have agreed to run trains from Alexandria to Banha, and from Aswan to Qena,” said Hussein Zakariya, the head of the Egyptian Railway Authority.

A limited number of trains would be allowed to run, while tightening security measures to ensure the safety of passengers, he added.

Ten trains would run between Alexandria and Banha, five in each direction, while four would run between Aswan and Qena, two in each direction.

The services had been suspended after the disperals of sit-ins staged by supporters of deposed President Mohamed Morsy in Rabea al-Adaweya and Nahda Square.
