Railway facilities are ‘truly collapsed’: deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Ziad Bahaa Eddin said the state is facing many challenges in various fields, including the railway facilities which he describes to be “truly collapsed.”

He added that members of the government have decided to focus on the future as their challenge, not the past, in order to rebuild Egypt’s aged and crumbling infrastructure.

“Interim government does not mean ‘a government that does not do its job,’” Bahaa Eddin told al-Nahar satellite channel on Saturday evening. “Our role is to resolve urgent problems, and also to place the foundations for the future.”

The government has decided to pump all resources in infrastructure, according to the Deputy Prime Minister. Infrastructure pending could make a real difference if it is able to positively impact the poor.

“We started at the point where our resources were limited, and our commitments were very large,” he added. “The citizens will feel the impact of the government projects starting from the beginning of next January.”

He expressed his grief over the recent train crash, which killed almost 30 people, and reassured that level crossings are currently under maintenance.
