Egyptian authorities opened the Rafah border crossing on both sides for two days starting Thursday, but only for humanitarian cases and for the transfer of aid to the Gaza Strip.
Egyptian authorities coordinated with the Palestinian side to open the crossing for students, medical patients, humanitarian cases and those carrying residence permits in Egypt, said an official source.
Additional staff at the port have been dispatched for the two days to speed up the process, the source added.
The Rafah border was closed following the Karam al-Qawadis incident in October.
