Rabaa al-Adaweya Square was opened to traffic ahead of Monday, part of a security plan to open sections of Cairo shut down following months of unrest.
Head of Cairo Security Directorate Osama al-Saghir said that the square was closed to patch up Rabaa al-Adaweya mosque and other parts of the square damaged after a pro-Morsy sit-in was violently dispersed by security forces on 14 August.
The mosque will also be reopened in a week, according to Cairo governor Galal al-Said.
