Qatar Emir proposes taking Jerusalem case to UN Security Council

During an international conference on Jerusalem on Sunday, Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa of Qatar called for an international investigation of all actions taken by Israel in Jerusalem.

During his televised speech at the opening session of the Doha International Conference for the Defense of Al-Quds, Khalifa said the UN Security Council should adopt a resolution for the formation of a fact-finding committee to investigate all actions taken by Israel since the 1967 occupation of Arab Jerusalem in its bid to "obliterate Islamic and Arab landmarks."

Israel has occupied Arab East Jerusalem since 1967 and annexed it in a move not recognized internationally.

Recommendations made during the two-day Doha Conference, attended by representatives from some 70 countries, will be presented at the upcoming Arab League Summit Baghdad in March.

During his speech at the conference, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas called on all Arabs and Muslims to visit Jerusalem in order to support its identity despite the occupation.
