Qasr al-Aini Hospital’s emergency room was closed on Friday after an attack on doctors and patients Thursday morning.
Eleven people attacked doctors and hospital staff in the emergency room at dawn to force doctors to treat their friend, who had suffered a knife wound. Three hospital employees suffered stab wounds in the attack.
At 10 am the same morning, five people broke into the surgery department and attacked two patients.
The head of Cairo University hospitals, Dr. Alaa Maher, said the hospital administration decided to close the emergency room until security is restored. He added that all emergency room doctors have stopped working.
The Doctors Syndicate called in a statement on Thursday for an emergency meeting with Interior Minister Mohamed Ibrahim to discuss ways to provide better security for hospitals.
The syndicate announced its support for the Qasr al-Aini board shutting the ER until security is restored.
