Qalyubia Governorate calls for urgent action over Arab Al-Aliqat landfill

An official source in the Qalyubia Governorate confirmed the formation of a high-level committee from the governorate, in coordination with a specialized committee from the ministries of Health and Environment, to inspect the sanitary landfill in Arab al-Aliqat in Khanka Police Station.

This comes after the death of three people and the injury of six others as a result of being burned by an unknown substance buried in the landfill.

The brother of one of the victims revealed that his brother was working collecting some garbage with others inside the landfill as usual, and then suddenly became ill after being exposed to an unknown substance present in plastic barrels that were being destroyed in the landfill.

He pointed out that he was transferred to the Poison Center at al-Damardash Hospital, but passed away with two others.

The Governor of Qalyubia has issued a decision in 2013 to move the sanitary landfill in the village of Arab al-Aliqat to the desert in response to the demands of the residents.
