Publishers arrested for printing textbooks without prior permission

Two Egyptian publishers were arrested on Monday for printing British university textbooks without obtaining prior authorization from the respective British universities operating in Egypt.

According to authorities, the practice is in violation of the regulations safeguarding intellectual property rights.

One publisher was caught printing 1000 copies of a University of Cambridge English-language textbook. The other was caught printing 300 copies of a medical textbook published by the University of Birmingham.

The two universities had previously reported both publishers to police, alleging that they were printing the books for sale in certain Arab countries.
