Workers at ten Cairo garages run by the Public Transport Authority have started a partial strike in preparation for a general strike on Sunday demanding injury allowances and other several demands related to the disbursement of bonuses.
"We apologize to affected citizens, this stop is closed until we get our rights," read a banner hoisted by protesting workers at Abdel Moneim Riyad stop.
Tarek al-Beheriy, who heads the authority's staff union, told Al-Masry Al-Youm that the authority does not enjoy any allocations by the Ministry of Finance and is always obliged to rely on its own budget.
He said that other 18 garages will join the strike late Saturday.
Transport workers have gone into strikes over the past three years over demands related to payment and service enhancement.
