Public Funds Prosecution summons former ministers over Alexandria chalets

The Public Funds Prosecution summoned former ministers Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, Zoheir Garana, Ahmed al-Maghraby and Fouad Sultan Wednesday to hear their testimonies on accusations of squandering public money.

The ministers are accused of allocating 12 chalets from the Montazah Palace on Alexandria's Aida Beach to former regime officials for LE2,000 annually, far below the going rate of LE100,000.

Judicial sources said that Abdel Nour will not give testimony as a suspect, unless investigations formally implicate him.

A team of prosecutors is expected to interrogate ministers detained in Tora prison pending investigations in other cases, and will also hear testimony from former Prime Minister Ahmed Nazif, former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and former Housing Minister Mohamed Ibrahim Suleiman about the public funds charges.

Investigations by the Public Funds Prosecution and Administrative Control Authority allegedly show that former tourism ministers allocated cabins at the beach to Nazif, Adly, Suleiman and their sons between 1995 and 2012.
