Dozens of protesters put up tents in front of the main gates of the Republican Guards headquarters in Nasr City, in attempts to pile further pressure on President Mohamed Morsy after his speech delivered late Tuesday.
Protesters said Morsy has lost his legitimacy, despite the president's spirited claims he would complete his term as Egypt's elected president.
Many of the protesters held shrouds in front of the house where the president and his family are currently staying.
The protesters raised banners that read: "The army and the people are one hand. The people brought down the regime. Morsy is wanted."
Amr al-Masry, one of the protesters, said the demonstrators came to the Republican Guards headquarters to escalate action against Morsy and called on the army to remove him, saying that the country will be dragged into civil war if he remains in power.
