Hundreds of people blocked the Suez-Ismailia Highway on Wednesday after the death of a young man in Suez.
According to police in Suez, Mohamed Abdel Baqy died in a motorcycle accident while fleeing police. However, locals say it was the police who killed him.
The protesters also tried to storm the police station in Suez, injuring five policemen.
Security Director Adel Raafat said the police were chasing the man on suspicion of kidnapping a girl. “While he was fleeing on his motorcycle, he hit the sidewalk and died in the crash,” said Raafat.
The police said the victim had previously been a suspect in cases of drug dealing, possession of an unlisenced weapon, and escaping from prison during the revolution.
