Hundreds of citizens blocked the highway linking the cities of Arish and Rafah in Sinai Monday to demand the arrest of the suspects behind the kidnapping of a girl.
The protesters rallied in front of the North Sinai Governorate building in Arish, causing traffic congestion.
Witnesses said unknown kidnappers took the girl late Sunday and demanded a ransom.
Citizens in Sinai have increasingly protested what they see as a security failure in recent months stemming from numerous armed groups in the region.
