Giza prosecution services have asked to hasten the summoning of popular movie and TV star Mohamed Ramadan for interrogation over accusations of assaulting a student at a filming location.
Ramadan is facing accusations of “permanently disfiguring” a 25-year-old student while filming a new movie 12 days ago.
Eye-witnesses told investigators that Ramadan assaulted the young man with an iron object following verbal altercation that developed into a physical fight.
Judicial sources told Al-Masry Al-Youm that investigations had not included any signs of a settlement between the pair.
Many critics and audience members censor Ramadan for promoting what they believe to be a culture of vulgarism in his movie, where he is mostly featured as an unrefined, up-in-arms teenager emerging from a disadvantaged community.
In 2012, Ramadan’s movie, "Abdu Mouta", where he received his second protagonist role, recorded the highest one-day revenue ever in the history of Egyptian cinema, making LE2.5 million on the first day of Eid al-Adha on Friday.
