Shubra al-Kheima prosecution, in QalyubiyaGovernorate, ordered Tuesday the arrest of the police officer who killed a citizen by mistake in Shubra al-Kheima Saturday, leading to violent clashes between the police and citizens.
The prosecution heard Tuesday the testimony of eyewitnesses who confirmed the testimony of the victim's family, who said that the police officer was chasing a drug dealer when he mistakenly shot the victim.
The prosecution also heard the testimony of 11 detainees who were arrested pending investigations. They said they were watching the incident like other citizens who were in the area, and were surprised when the police arresting them for “no reason.”
Security leaders in the area were also summoned to give testimony.
Clashes erupted in the area following the killing, and some residents then blocked one of the main roads in the area and attempted to storm the police station.
Health Ministry said in its latest statement that the number of deaths had reached five people and that 12 people were injured, including two police officers and a soldier.
