A senior judicial source on Wednesday said that the prosecution is going to investigate Alaa and Gamal, sons of deposed President Hosni Mubarak, in three more charges of corruption.
The source explained that in a few days, the defendants will face the new charges, adding that they would stand trial separately. The defendants are currently pending trial in Tora Prison for other charges of corruption.
Prosecutors had earlier interrogated the defendants in accusations of manipulating the stock exchange, profiteering from Egypt’s debt settlement and privatization of public sector companies, and the appointment of Gamal Mubarak as the central bank’s representative at the board of the Arab African Bank in violation of the law.
The source also said that prosecutors are going to investigate other officials implicated in the new charges, including former Prime Minister Atef Ebeid, former Deputy Prime Minister Youssef Wali, former Finance Minister Youssef Boutros-Ghali and former Minister of Agriculture Amin Abaza.
The source noted that the prosecution will announce the results of investigations once they are completed.
