Prosecution asks Parliament to lift immunity of MP accused of indecency

The Banha Prosecution in Qalyubiya Governorate demanded that the People's Assembly remove the immunity of Nour Party MP Ali Wanees, who is accused of committing an indecent act with a girl in his car on Thursday.

The prosecution is investigating the incident and demanded access to the girl’s cell phone and phone records for the girl and Wanees. It also sent the case file to the People’s Assembly, including details of the accusations against the MP and the girl.

If Wanees loses immunity, the prosecution would charge him with committing an indecent act in public, lying in a police report and assaulting an on-duty civil servant.

The girl was detained for four days pending investigations and accused of providing police with false information about her identity when she was arrested on Thursday. Prosecutors demanded that investigators conduct a virginity test on the girl, a judicial source told Al-Masry Al-Youm.

The prosecution submitted a request to the Civil Status Department for information about the girl’s identity.

A dean at Banha University said that the girl is enrolled there, but that the university will not interfere in the case while it is under investigation. The dean said that the case will be referred to the university’s president, Dr. Ali Shams Eddin, to take action in the case of a conviction.
