Prominent Egyptian judge claims colleagues cooperated with state security

Cairo Court of Appeal President Fouad Rashed on Sunday submitted a note to Attorney General Abdel Meguid Mahmoud where he lambasted certain judges. He said some judges were cooperating with the State Security Investigation Bureau by allowing the latter to interfere in verdicts and judicial supervision of elections.

“Those judges must be investigated immediately,” Rashed said. “And results must be announced publicly.”

Supreme Judicial Council Vice President Ahmed Mekki said any such judges would be excluded from supervising the referendum on constitutional amendments that is slated for 19 March.

Demonstrators who recently stormed the state security’s bureau found documents proving that certain judges allowed previous parliamentary elections to be rigged.
