Pro-Sisi front calls for 25 January rallies to demand Defense Minister to run for president

The ‘Egypt: My Country’ front held its first conference at the Cairo International Center on Monday. Organizers called on Egyptians to rally on 25 January, 2014 to call on Defense Minister Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to run for president.

Participants chanted in support of Sisi and held posters that read “Egypt’s Hope” next to his picture in a military outfit.

Former Mufti Ali Gomaa, the front’s honorary president, called on Egyptians to vote ‘yes’ on the constitutional amendments. “We want pro-constitution rallies that fascinate the world and terrify the terrorists,” he said.

Former Interior Minister Ahmed Gamal Eddin bashed ousted President Mohamed Morsy’s policies during his one year in office. “Morsy was obsessed that the state institutions were conspiring against him so he tried their brotherhoodization,” he said.

“30 June spoiled a plan to divide the entire Arab region,” he added. “Terrorism at home is aimed at penalizing Egyptians for their successful revolution.”

Gamal Eddin also addressed the Muslim Brotherhood youth, “Don’t blame the state institutions for performing their duties. Blame your leaders who lost the trust of the Egyptian people.”

Journalist Mostafa Bakry, the front’s spokesperson, told participants that the organization will vote in favor of the constitution and he encouraged others to do so as well.

The front also said that it supports holding presidential elections first. Participants also called on Interim President Adly Mansour to issue a law banning the Muslim Brotherhood.
