Pro-SCAF protesters block road in Nasr City

Military council supporters who have been holding a sit-in at the Memorial of the Unknown Soldier in Nasr City, Cairo, blocked Nasr Road in protest against President Mohamed Morsy’s decree to reinstate the People’s Assembly.

Ahmed Abdel Ghani, a sit-in participant, said the protesters reject the decree and will continue their demonstration until both chambers of Parliament are dissolved and the Constituent Assembly is reformed by the military council. They are also calling for the supplement to the Constitutional Declaration to remain in place and for the rights of police and military martyrs to be respected.

Tawfiq Okasha, the controversial pro-military television presenter, as well as other media and political figures will take part in mass protests tonight, Abdel Ghani said.

State-owned news agency MENA said that protesters have set up a stage and four tents near the memorial, as well as a number of banners outlining their demands.

The protesters are calling for the dissolution of the Muslim Brotherhood and investigations into alleged vote rigging during the presidential election.
